Job Description
The Director, Public Affairs & Communications, has primary responsibility for leading the planning, strategy, and execution of external and internal communications that directly impact the image, reputation, and profitability of the U.S. business and its brands. The incumbent counsels Division and Corporate executives on key reputation issues; leads the Divisions public response to local crisis situations and product-specific issues; and serves as the Divisions primary spokesperson before the national print and broadcast news media. He/she also is responsible for conceiving and leading execution of proactive public relations campaigns to drive brand awareness and loyalty, grow consumer trial, and generate health care professional recommendations for products. Additionally, the incumbent assists with the Divisions executive communications, employee communications, and community relations programs.
Works with the divisions leadership in the development of internal communications designed to engage employees in the Divisions mission and strategic direction, communicate business performance, and elevate employee business literacy. Directs execution of key tactics including newsletters, electronic publications, town hall meetings and Intranet content. Partners with Public Affairs and Corporate Employee Communications to align and adapt Division-level, global-level and Corporate messages as appropriate.
Provides PR counsel to brand teams. Counsels and collaborating with the Leadership Team, Category Business Units, Nutrition Public Affairs, Corporate Investor Relations and Corporate Public Affairs teams and guides external PR agencies. Ensures effective integration of key messages across all external communications channels.
Bachelors degree required and 10+ years experience in a communications role within a CONSUMER PACKAGED GOODS COMPANY is a REQUIREMENT. Minimum of 3 years in a management/leadership-level position that has interacted with senior management. Crisis management experience a MUST.
