Our client is a major apparel & accessories company that develops, sources and markets a diverse line of men’s & women’s apparel under its highly recognized signature brand.
This position has been made available due to an internal promotion. The position offers a competitive six figure salary, bonus, excellent benefits and relocation assistance.
This position will encompass pipeline research of raw material suppliers which can strengthen the company’s global supply chain and bring new technologies to the business. It will involve leading development strategies for fabric, trim, and color development which will ensure a continuous flow of innovative products.


The Advanced Materials Developer will have responsibilities for regulatory oversight with the expectation of managing compliance requirements.

Responsibilities:
•Oversee the identification and research of new raw material and product suppliers which will strengthen the company’s global supply chain and/or bring new technologies/innovation to the business.
•Direct and execute strategic material development for the U.S. and global markets.
•Responsible for analyzing and commercializing new global opportunities for raw materials, manufacturers, and full package suppliers. Partner with purchasing and sourcing teams to execute the new vendor process.
•Collaborate with Design on materials suitable for opportunities with exploratory and seasonal samples.
•Coordinate, analyze, and interpret fabric and trim test results. Communicate appropriate feedback to suppliers including regulatory compliance expectations.
•Develop and maintain product specifications for all raw materials. Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Sourcing to provide complete and accurate information.
•Analyze and resolve quality and manufacturing issues related to raw materials.
•Develop a network of sources and contacts for development and testing of raw materials.
•Remain current on the textile industry, continuously building textile expertise and network of contacts within the industry.
•Provide technical assistance to customer service requests. Support sales, merchandising, and marketing on technical and regulatory needs.
•Responsible for the compliance and certification process for regulated products as required by the applicable industry standards.
•Manage the process for regulatory critical documentation.
•Support the PD team on the research, evaluation, and integration of new technologies identified as business critical opportunities.
•Proficient in navigating and functioning within PLM to set up raw material developments, update development status and testing, and create tech packs for manufacturing.
•Build on technical expertise related to proposed changes to laws, regulations, and industry trends so to keep the company’s products relevant and compliant.
•Attend selected regulatory specific committee meetings – ASTM, NFPA, ISEA, etc.
•Assist the Quality Assurance Team as a subject matter expert on yearly onsite supplier audits.
•Global travel to raw material suppliers and manufacturers to validate raw materials, review prototypes, and execute sourcing strategies.

Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Textile Engineering preferred.
•Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in textile manufacturing or product development. Apparel industry preferred.
•Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience required. Can be any combination of direct leadership, leading raw material projects or general project management.
•Strong fabric, trim and color development background. Apparel industry preferred. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of raw materials (fabric and trim) from fiber up and the ability to work directly with supplier engineers to develop compliant products and troubleshoot as needed.
•Demonstrated leadership in development with a focus on innovation and quality.
•Strong strategic and analytical skills and aptitude.
