General Summary:
We are currently seeking a Customer Lead, Whole Foods Market, reporting to the Team Lead, Natural & Specialty Channel. This person will be focused on the management of key natural brands from Company’s portfolio at Whole Foods.  The Customer Lead will manage day-to-day activities with our broker partner on branded products as well as directly manage our private label portfolio for Whole Foods. The ideal candidate will preferably reside in one of the following locations: Austin, Texas; Santa Monica, CA; San Francisco, CA; Mid-West or Philadelphia area.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Developing and implementing customer strategies that align with the overall Natural Foods strategies for Company, and achieving profitable sales objectives
  • Improving customer performance and ROI through frequent and effective negotiation
  • Leading the planning process for Whole Foods across brands
  • Working closely with cross-functional partners in Marketing, Finance, R&D, Product Development, and Strategy on Company’s critical and growing private label portfolio with Whole Foods
  • Developing trade promotion strategies and tactical plans with the customer
  • Monitoring and updating customer’s business plan including trade spend and sales vs. annual operating plan
  • Conducting post-event analyses and use learnings to adjust future programs
  • Leveraging category management and insights resources appropriately
  • Developing timely and accurate forecasts and proactively identifying risks or opportunities
  • Work closely with peer team members to manage Whole Foods supply chain through UNFI for maximum Natural/Specialty team performance
  • Train and develop: identifying short and long-term opportunities to develop through the IDP process
Job Complexity:
  • Bold negotiator: the ideal candidate is savvy in high pressure negotiations involving multiple stakeholders that determine long-term success with this key retailer
  • Strategic insight: with the Amazon purchase of Whole Foods, this candidate will use multiple sources of insights to guide our categories into the future successfully
  • Ability to assess customer’s competitive position, behaviors and strategies and understand how they align with Company’s strategic goals to determine the best customer investment strategy
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to develop productive working relationships with key decision makers at various levels within the customer’s organizational structure
  • Manage 5-15 different categories/brands, working with multiple customer stakeholders and touchpoints
  • Teamwork:  requires cross-functional interaction within the Company’s organization (e.g., Finance, Category Management, Shopper Marketing, Brand Management, Joint Business Planning, etc.)
  • Requires strong understanding of and experience with P&L management
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 4+ years of professional Sales experience (Natural Foods and/or Whole Foods experience strongly preferred)
  • History of delivering sustainable growth and exceeding customer plans
  • Strong negotiation skills a must
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Product portfolio channel experience: Experience selling within a specific channel with knowledge of channel dynamics
  • Proven track record in sales planning and customer P&L management
  • Solid analytical and technical skills in MS office and internal sales tools
  • Can build and maintain cross-functional relationships internally and at customer level
