Human Resources Generalist
Excellent opportunity for a Human Resource Generalist at a successful, privately held specialty products company. Based in Northern Indiana near South Bend, the company has distribution operations well positioned to serve customers throughout the United States. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter that can work with minimal direction. The organization has high transaction volume and a diverse national customer base. The position will report to the company President and work closely with the entire leadership team. The Company has experienced significant growth which is expected to continue because of strategic initiatives that have been implemented.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ensure an effective system is in place for recruiting, talent management, on-boarding, retention, and performance management.
  • Accountable for delivering human resources support for the organization, including benefit administration, wage/salary administration, and employee relations. Actively improve the quality and cost of benefit plans.
  • Identify high potential employees and assist with development plans.
  • Partner with other leaders to drive employee engagement.
  • Serve as a role model for the organization’s code of conduct.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and maintain personnel transactions and record-keeping, including insurance, longevity, retirement, and disability.
  • Responsible for hourly personnel administration, including promotions, transfers, workers’ compensation claims, suspensions, lay-offs, and dismissals.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations such as with EEO, AAP, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, FLSA, COBRA, HIPAA, OSHA.
  • Counsels management and employees on grievances and other complaints originating from individual work situations or work environments.
  • Assist leadership team in building a positive company culture.
  • Lead activity to support company Safety program.
  • Performs related work as assigned and not limited to description details contained above.
Position requirements:
Bachelor’s degree desirable and seven to ten years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in manufacturing or distribution.
  • An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards.
  • A strategic planner with sound technical skills, analytical ability and good judgment.
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player and calming influence. An articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret complex human resource related documents. Able to respond effectively to confidential, sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and an HRIS/applicant tracking system.
