Manager, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering

This important leadership position will provide leadership to a multidisciplined engineering team managing all New Product Development (NPD) deliverables from operations.  This includes new process development direction across all production facilities to ensure best business practices and protocols are used in process design and development related to the internal Product Development Process. This is a Pivotal Operations Leadership role implementing manufacturing strategy for a high-profile line of new software, visualization and intelligent devices. 

This position will interface across multiple functions including Marketing, R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality and interactivity communicate process direction. Leading commercialization and advanced engineering process support for new products (concept to launch).  Main Oversite includes:
  1. Management of direct and indirect employees
  2. Establishment and maintenance of policies and procedures for the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, and technical and professional leadership for the Operations interface with the New Product Development structure.
  3. The Manager, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering will oversee relationships and policies with other functions of the operations extended teams including Office of Project Management, Pilot Manufacturing, Industrial engineering, packaging, graphics, and assembly/component tooling engineering in support of development and commercialization of new Devices.
 Objectives and Duties for the Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering will include:
  • Manage workload and professional development for a cross-functional team of engineers (7 direct reports) supporting the development and commercialization of medical devices.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction for global manufacturing strategies as they apply to NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT (NPD) of INTELLIGENT DEVICE PRODUCTS
  • Manage Operations interface for NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT (NPD) projects to optimize lean manufacturing performance while shortening time to market and minimizing time to production transfer.
  • Establish and continually approve best practices and procedures for all Operations activities as they apply to the NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT (NPD) process for surgical devices.
  • Maintain strong managerial relationships with other key functional areas including Purchasing, Manufacturing, Assembly tooling, Packaging and Graphics, PMO, Quality Assurance, and R&D
  • Assure NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT (NPD) deliverables, are on time and of high quality resulting in successful completion of NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT (NPD) projects within schedule, budget, quality, and scope objectives
  • Provide directional input for global manufacturing strategies and drive implementation at core and extended team levels
  • Manage overall Operations inputs to NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT (NPD) through strong project management systems. Identify, manage, and mitigate critical paths and risks which may affect profit, schedule and expenses.
  • Communicate and coordinate Operations NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT (NPD) activities with multiple functional groups both within and outside of operations
  • Manage expense budget inputs for direct reports including reviews and equity planning as well as budgetary strategy on a fiscal year basis 

Requirements:
Bachelors Degree is required (master degree preferred) in Manufacturing Technologies or a related field (mechanical, Industrial engineering)
  1. Minimum 10 years experience with proven track record in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Management and New Product Process Development.
  2. Minimum of 4 years project and program management experience required including ability to understand and mitigate project bottlenecks and risks.
  3. Demonstrated leadership experience in New Product Development activities.
  • 3 Years Supervisory Experience 
  • Skilled at building effective teams
  • Experienced in new product manufacturing strategies and practical application of approaches.
  • Significant experience in assembly equipment technologies
  • Trained/ certified in project Management
  • Trained/Certified in Lean and/or Six Sigma
  • Working knowledge of GD&T/FMEA/ and DFA applications 
  • Close working relationship with 3rd party manufacturers and technical companies
